In a couple of weeks, Olivet University will congratulate the Class of 2007 with a commencement celebration that provides a glimpse of the university's progress towards becoming a premier educational institution.
Over the summer, however, another question takes spotlight: What is Olivet University planning for the next 5 years? This question is driving the planning process initiated by the Office of the Institutional Research.
This planning process builds on the vision of earlier productions, but has many more details and specific recommendations.
"This is a wonderful chance for Olivet University to make strides toward our goal of achieving excellence in student learning," said a statement issued from the office. "Our strategy is a strong emphasis on information literacy and analytical research improvement, and in the growing quality of each of our Colleges. We're also seeking to raise the quality of the Christian Service and Ministry Practice programs, and to improve the quality in the Bible and general education core curriculum."
Planning is being carried out at a number of levels simultaneously. The Colleges are in the midst of organizing academic priorities, while a number of cross-curricular planning committees have been examining university-wide concerns. Several planning groups are spanning the major educational areas: Bible and theology, general education, and the professional schools. Others are probing institutional issues such as information technology and campus development.
Documents in the process will be placed in a special section of MyOlivet designated for assessment and planning. Study papers, instructions to the Colleges and planning committee groups and executive summaries of some of the plans already have been posted.
